As needed, the following services are performed as part of ERD's encoder repairs:
Output repair and calibration
Bearing Replacement
Connector repair or replacement
Optical component repair or replacement
Optical Test and Alignment
Encoders are thoroughly cleaned and solder de-fluxed
Test critical waveform characteristics including pulse count per revolution, pulse shape, jitter measurements and power consumption
Test all channel outputs
Initiate all incremental TTL outputs
Check Shaft and signal speed
Initiate Pulse, and Digital modulation outputs
Check Commutation output
Test Quadrature Signals
Verify high-resolution incremental signals and more
Common Encoder Problems |
|
Symptoms |
Solutions |
| Encoder shaft locked or difficult to turn - possible defective bearings | Disassemble and clean parts, replace bearings. Adjust phases and load test. |
| Encoder produces rough operation - possible oil or coolant inside encoder. | All of the repair procedures for the above. |
| Encoder has no output - possible defective light source. | Replace defective light source components, plus many of the repair procedures for above |
| Encoder has intermittent output - possible loose mask or cold solder joint. | Reseat the mask, repair all cold solder joints, plus many of the repair procedures for above. |
| Encoder has been dropped and now makes a rattling noise or the shaft won't turn | More than likely, the Encoder is not repairable, and will need to be replaced. |
